summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
Water Taxi Service in Pompano Beach-a sustainable transportation solution connecting Pompano Beach to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood. The Pompano Beach Water Taxi is proposed as a component of a regional transportation service that will link the City of Pompano Beach with the neighboring coastal cities of Lighthouse Point to the North and Lauderdale by the Sea, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood to the South via the Intracoastal waterway along the east coast through Broward County. The intent is to provide alternate transportation service to points of interest in the City of Pompano Beach through a system of 10 stops, including the Fishing Village restaurants, hotels, the Fisher Family Pier, shops, and the general beach area, and to connect riders with neighboring attractions and amenities. The Water Taxi stops are conveniently located close to the Circuit micro-mobility routes throughout the beach area, and along Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach, a designated transit-oriented corridor. The City has been notified of the award of an FDOT Grant in the amount of approximately $1.3M to cover 50% of the cost of the Water Taxi service over the contract term. The new Water Taxi Service is a logical extension of these micro mobility routes, which were previously funded by a similar FDOT Grant. Service will be provided by two (2) 40ft. U.S. Coast Guard Certified Water Taxi Vessels with a 55-passenger capacity plus one (1) Captain and one (1) Deckhand. The boats will be equipped with Tier 3 compliant engines for emissions and low wake, security cameras, a sound system, an accessible deck area, and a unisex bathroom. (Value $400,000-$600,000).
