summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has approved a Public Transportation Service Grant in the amount of $195,000 to the City of Pompano Beach over a 3-year period. It is a 1-year grant initially and if the grantor is pleased with the service each year, they will continue to fund for the additional 2 years. These funds will enable the City to expand our Micro-Transit circular route further into neighborhoods just west of the Intercoastal Waterway by adding 2 additional Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV’s).
This new addition will provide service into neighborhoods to the north and south of Atlantic Boulevard through the Harbor Village neighborhoods. This expansion is expected to further reduce traffic and tailpipe emissions on our roadways. By removing these vehicles from our roadway we are also reducing the demand for parking in the area of service.
Although the City currently has an agreement with Circuit for micro-transit services, this agreement is in its last year. The City will first issue a Request for Proposals to allow providers to compete for a longer-term contract to ensure the City is obtaining competitive prices and the route will be extended once that process is complete and a new longer-term contract is in place. FDOT has agreed to work with the City on the grant as we navigate this RFP process and the City can also request an extension on the grant. The City will be evaluating the service overall as we prepare a new RFP for micro-transit services.
The City will match this funding dollar for dollar as stipulated in the grant agreement included within the backup materials. Staff will continue to seek additional grant funding for further expansion of this service over time.
Origin of request for this action: Parking Operations
Fiscal impact and source of funding: 195,000.00 in Grant Revenue; 50% City Match - Parking Fund 472-4710-545-3160 (Professional Services) once we mobilize expansion of services.
