summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
Approval of this Resolution will allow the recommended artist, Steven Lutz, to fabricate and install two (2) outdoor mosaic benches and complete a community engagement activity at the Patricia Davis Community Garden located at 1089 NW 6th Ave. in the NW CRA District. This project is known as the Patricia Davis Community Garden Bench Project.
In 2017, the City began its Mosaic Team program that consisted of a lead artist working with five (5) approved apprentices. As a way to expand on the program and help these apprentices move forward in their careers, the Public Art Committee (PAC) circulated a Request for Proposals among the apprentices for a project involving the design, fabrication, and installation of two (2) mosaic benches and completion of one (1) community engagement activity at the Garden for a total budget of $3,000.00. Funding for the project is from the PAC’s annual Opportunity Fund Budget. At its September 19, 2020 meeting, the PAC selected artist Steven Lutz’ designs for this project.
The PAC and staff are recommending approval of this Resolution to allow Steve Lutz to complete the Patricia Davis Community Garden Bench Project at the Patricia Davis Community Gardens.
In accordance with Section § 160.04 - POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the authority to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location.
