summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
On 12/11/18 (item 7), City Commission authorized the addition of Neptune Water Meters, Parts, and Accessories, to the list of standardized purchases. As current purchases are expected to exceed the Commission-approved annual limit of $300,000.00, Utilities requests an additional $300,000.00 for the fiscal year.
Utilities Water and Reuse Distribution, Divisions #3330 and #3355, has utilized and outfitted the City’s water/reuse service areas with Neptune meters and appurtenances for the past 27 years. Throughout that period of time, the meters have proven to be very reliable. Neptune “smart meters” and software were installed in 2011 to enable AMR (automated meter reading) / AMI (advanced metering technology) data collection. The smart meters and software provides a safeguard to cross connection control by alerting staff to probable water quality and system integrity concerns related to back flow contamination into the City’s potable water supply.
Standardizing all water and reuse meters with Neptune “smart meters” will ensure a means to deliver a dependable and trustworthy product that directly impacts customer inquiry, billing accuracy and system integrity. Utilities Field Operations request standardization classification for Neptune meters and related appurtenances for the distribution systems. Neptune Technology Group Inc., is the sole source manufacture of its products. In addition the vendor provides the City a 35% cost discount towards equipment and supplies.
