summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

Staff is seeking approval of a Resolution in support of the City’s list of projects identified as candidates to receive Surtax funding. One list was compiled in 2018 and submitted to Broward County and the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for consideration. The MPO ranked the City’s projects and recommended four (4) of those projects for funding: Dixie Highway ($24.86 million for construction); Riverside Drive ($700k for design and $5.2 million for construction); Kendall Lakes ($3.7 million for construction); and, Bay Drive ($1.1 million for construction). Subsequently, the County’s Oversight Board reviewed the recommendation and confirmed the approved projects were in compliance with adopted Ordinances. And, the County Commission approved a motion to allocate funds to those projects. The remaining projects on that original list were not funded but they are still eligible and will come up for reconsideration in the future. The second list is for projects submitted for consideration in 2021. The list includes projects that staff believes are high priority and will help the City move them forward in the coming years. This Resolution is a new requirement implemented by Broward County upon enactment of a Second Amendment to the Surtax Ordinance that the County Commission approved in March 2021. Staff recommends approval.
