summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The City of Pompano Beach operates in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program and participates in the NFIP’s Community Rating System, a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum program requirements.  The City has achieved a CRS rating of Class 6, making citizens who purchase NFIP flood insurance policies eligible for premium discounts of 30%. The Federal Emergency Management Agency released a new policy to allow issuance of building permits for non-elevated wet flood proofed accessory structures that are not larger than the sizes specified in the FEMA Policy. In addition, FEMA has directed that the City Commission of the City of Pompano Beach may determine that it is in the public interest to amend the floodplain management regulations to better protect manufactured homes.

The amendments to this ordinance has been guided and approved by the Florida Division of Emergency Management NFIP Consultant as well as the City’s Floodplain Manager.
