summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
The Budget Office has received several requests from our residents and businesses to modify both the Blue and Red Routes. In order to better serve their transportation needs, the City and Broward County Transit (BCT) worked together to evaluate both routes and provide recommendations. There is no financial impact associated with the recommended changes.
The recommended changes for approval for the Blue and Red Routes are as follows:
Hours of operation for the Blue Route will change from 8:40 a.m. - 4:37 p.m. to 9:05 a.m. - 5:02 p.m. The bus will run on a 70-minute running time and 75-minute headway (frequency). Festival Flea Market and the loop road-segment from NW 6th Avenue to NW 15th Street back to MLK Boulevard will be eliminated from the Blue Route and will be added to the Red Route. Saint Joseph Manor, an assisted living facility, located at 1220 NW 6th Avenue will be added to both Blue and Red routes. The Tri-Rail Station will be added to the Blue Route.
Hours of operations for the Red Route will remain the same (9:00 a.m. - 4:57 p.m.). The bus will run on a 70-minute running time and 73-minute headway (frequency). Festival Flea Market, Isle Casino, and the loop road-segment from NW 6th Avenue to NW 15th Street back to MLK Boulevard are added to the route. Oak Clubhouse Building and Parking Lot of Building #52 on Palm Aire Blvd. North stops, as well as westbound MLK Blvd. from NW 7th Avenue to NW 13th Avenue will not be covered on the proposed Red Route. Data collection indicates low or no records of ridership.
The Budget Office along with Broward County Transit personnel held a Public Meeting on November 10, 2016 at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center to gain public input prior to moving forward with the adoption of these recommendations.
If approval is granted, the changes will be effective January 2, 2017.
