Summary Explanation/Background:

In 2009 the Mayor’s Economic Stimulus Task Force embarked on an ambitious campaign to produce a series of recommendations of how the City could become a key catalyst for economic activity and business investment in Pompano Beach.  Those recommendations, which included a tourism and marketing initiative, were ultimately adopted by the City Commission in April of 2010.  The 2010  “Tourism in Pompano Beach-Overview and Assessment” plan outlined realistic achievable goals in the short and long term.  Short term goals included: a public relations campaign, branding, grants research and application, a comprehensive visitors guide, participation in national tourism week, a visitor’s kiosk, and an inlet webcam.  Long term goals included: a new website, CRA improvements and partnerships, expanded visitor center, an advertising and marketing program, a focus on target markets, improving existing accommodations, among other things. Staff and the Tourism Committee achieved many of the goals established in the 2010 plan and adapted quickly to challenges and roadblocks along the way.    In 2019, the Tourism Committee began its analysis and evaluation of the 2010 plan and began the development of the Tourism Strategic Plan 2022. It is worth noting that many participants and key community stakeholders in the 2009 Task Force also participated in the preparation of the 2022 TSP, which provides a roadmap of tourism in the City for the next ten years.
