Summary Explanation/Background:
Approval of this Amendment to the Agreement will allow the City to complete the originally executed Agreement between the City of Pompano Beach and artist Sonata Kazimieraitiene for the program entitled Mosaics.
Under the Ten Year Public Art Master Plan (Resolution # 2016-78) and the FY 2017 Public Art Annual Plan (Resolution # 2017-36), a program entitled Mosaics was approved. This public art program includes designing, fabricating and installing four (4) separate mosaic mural projects throughout the City of Pompano Beach while the artist works with and teaches five (5) apprentices. Under Ordinance # 2017-40, an agreement between the City of Pompano Beach and Sonata Kazimieraitiene for the program Mosaics was executed on April 28, 2017. The original Ordinance was for a two (2) year agreement between the City of Pompano Beach and Sonata Kazimieraitiene with the option to extend the Agreement for up to one (1) year provided both parties agree in writing to said extension (Article 7 of Original Agreement). The agreement will expire on April 27, 2019. The City needs to extend the Agreement for an additional one year due to unanticipated circumstances.
Staff is recommending approval of this extension to allow Sonata Kazimieraitiene to complete the commissioned projects.
In accordance with Section § 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location.
