Summary Explanation/Background:
In accordance with Section § 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location.
This program was originally approved under the Public Art Master Plan and Guidelines Resolution # 2016-78. The program has also been approved through the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Public Art Annual Plans Resolution # 2015-440, # 2017-36 and # 2018-52. The Artist Agreement and Ordinance # 2017-40 was signed and approved by the City Commission on April 25, 2017. The Agreement states that the lead artist, Sonata Kazimieraitiene, will install a trail of mosaic artworks connecting both sides of Dixie Highway in the Innovation District. Exact locations were not selected at that time.
At the August 16, 2018 Public Art Committee Meeting, the Committee recommended approval of all the locations for the Trail including the exterior walls located at 165 NE 1 Ave. Pompano Beach, FL. 33060. This building is owned by T E P M , Inc., leased by the Cultural Redevelopment Agency and subleased to Innovative Food Group, LLC.
On October 23, 2018, Resolution # 2019-25 was approved. This Resolution approved the installation of the Trail of the Honey Bees as part of the Mosaic Team Project at the following locations: 731 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.; Annie Adderly Gillis Park; The E. Pat Larkins Center; The Ali Cultural Arts Center; the west side of the Broward Transit Center on Dixie Hwy. and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.; the north side of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Dixie Hwy.; 3rd St. and Flegler Ave.; the northwest corner of 2nd St. and 1st Ave.; 1st Ave. and 2nd St.; the front of Holy Cross Family Medical Center located at 114 N. Flagler Ave.; the front of the bank located at 61 NE 1st ave.; the Bailey Contemporary Arts Building; 50 NE 1st St.; the Civic Plaza; the north side of Atlantic Blvd. and 1st Ave.; the southwest corner of SW 1st Ave. and Atlantic Blvd.; the southeast corner of SW 1st Ave and Atlantic Blvd.; the Cultural Arts Center; City Hall; and City Commission Chambers.
