On September 26. 2019, via Ordinance 2019-92 (see attached Ordinance) the City executed a Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) contract with the Burkhardt Construction. Inc, for various improvements along the SR A1A corridor including “undergrounding all existing utilities” (FPL, AT&T, Comcast) in order to provide increase resilience to the elements and extreme weather. On March 22, 2022 the agreement was amended via Ordinance 2022-37 to authorize work on the Streetscape improvements component (Phase1- from Sunset Lane to Atlantic Boulevard). To date, construction activities on the streetscape are approximately 40% complete with items such as ADA ramps retrofit, bus stops reconstruction, new pavers installation at sidewalks, new curbed islands are now in place but work has been impacted due to ongoing delays with the Utilities Overhead Conversion and Undergrounding energizing by Florida Power &Light.
Burkhardt Construction continues to work expeditiously on the project and Undergrounding work North of Atlantic Boulevard is progressing steadily. Based on staff review and discussions with FPL, the revised scheduled is expected to adequately provide for construction completion of all phases.
