summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

Approval of this Resolution will allow the City of Pompano Beach to complete Round 3 of the Utility Box Wraps project. This project was originally approved under the Public Art Ten Year Master Plan (Resolution #2016-78) and the Public Art FY2019 Annual Plan (Resolution #2019-123). The Public Art Committee is preparing to install thirty-one (31) vinyl wraps on traffic signal boxes throughout the City.

A Call to Artists was posted August 21, 2019, with a deadline of October 19, 2019. 743 artists submitted applications. On February 20, 2020, the PAC Subcommittee recommended the approval of twenty (20) artists for a total of thirty-one (31) designs and locations for each design. Artists signed Letters of Understanding stating they will be paid $200.00 per design for one-time reproduction rights. The selected sites are the remaining locations in the City that have not been wrapped though Rounds 1 and 2 of the Utility Box Wrap project. These locations provide artwork in every District. A map of all boxes within City is provided in backup.

The Public Art Committee and staff recommend approval of this Resolution accepting the twenty (20) artists and thirty-one (31) designs and locations for Round 3 of the Utility Box Wrap project.

In accordance with Section § 160.04  POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location.
