Summary Explanation/Background:
January 2018 the public library located at 1213 East Atlantic Boulevard relocated to 50 West Atlantic Boulevard next to the Cultural Center. The old library building was demolished May 2018 due to its poor condition. February 2019 the City purchased the vacant lot directly west of the old library property with the intent to unify the two properties to be surplused and developed by the successful bidder as one site to maximize the options for future use and development of the site. A Declaration of Unity of Title to unify the two folios was recorded by Broward County June 19, 2019.
The property to surplus is 1.07 acres (46,758 square feet) of vacant land on the northwest corner of intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and NE 13th Avenue, zoned Transit Oriented (TO) within the East Overlay District (EOD). As described in section 155.3709 A. of the City’s Code of Ordinances “The East Overlay District (EOD) is established and intended to encourage an urban form that promotes transit usage and pedestrian oriented development in the area connecting the Downtown Pompano Beach Overlay District and the Atlantic Boulevard Overlay District. The purpose of the district standards is to stimulate economic revitalization, create a pedestrian-friendly environment and promote mixed-use development.”
The City has no current or future plans for a public purpose for the property. In accordance with Section 253 of the City of Pompano Beach Charter staff is requesting the City Commission to declare the property as surplus and express the City’s desire to sell the property with an advertised invitation for bids, which will include a minimum bid amount. A notice will be emailed to those who have registered to receive surplus real property invitation to bid notices. The invitation for bids will be posted on the City website on the Real Property page. Sealed bids will be submitted to the City Clerk’s office by the date and time specified in the public notice. Responsive bids will be presented to the Commission as a regular agenda item.
