summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The City of Pompano Beach and the Florida Department of Transportation are working with the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to initiate proposed Complete Streets Improvements along Atlantic Blvd. from NW 31 Ave to NW 6th Ave.  The timeframe for implementation of such improvements will be determined based on funding availability, with potential dates for design in 2026 and construction in 2028.

The MPO has a Complete Streets Master Plan which includes the improvements proposed for Atlantic Blvd. Complete Streets improvements allow pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorists to conveniently travel on the same facilities while using any mode of transportation. These improvements provide easy access to cross the street, walk to shops, ride the bus, bike to school, and drive to work in a safe and comfortable environment. Specific improvements proposed for Atlantic Blvd. include: decorative pedestrian lighting; shelters, bike racks, benches, trash receptacles; possible ponding and drainage fix for NW 16th Avenue - through local agreement; between NW 27th & I-95 widen sidewalk to full width available on north side at least 10 ft. and between SW 21st & Magner Drive widen sidewalk to guardrail face.

Flyer notifications have been sent to adjacent property owners to provide information and receive input on the project scope. A Resolution of support is required to be approved by all participating local governments in order to allow this project to proceed, therefore staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
