summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
In accordance with Section § 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location. The Committee is having a second round of Painted Pompano fish, entitled “Painted Pompano Round 2: Schools of Art”, due to the original project’s success. The theme of Round 2 focuses on different art history periods. This project was approved in the Annual Plan for FY17.
A Call to Artists was posted February 21st, 2017 with a deadline of April 4th, 2017. Sixty-two (62) artists submitted applications through an online artist application and adjunction system called CaFE. The PAC voted through this system prior to the May 18th meeting. Through CaFE, the top artists were narrowed down and at the May 18th, 2017 PAC Meeting, the Committee selected twelve (12) final artists.
The goal of the program is to increase cultural, social and economic value along the corridors. This beautification effort will not only enhance the experience of all those visiting but also educate visitors on the different periods of art.
The locations of each Fish were provided at the last Commission Meeting.
