Summary Explanation/Background:
City Parking staff requests approval of this amendment to Section 70.11 of the City of Pompano Beach Code of Ordinances “ILLEGALY PARKED VEHICLES” to modify fines for parking violations from $35 to $45, as well as escalating the amount due to $60 after 14 calendar days and up to $75 after 30 calendar days, if the initial citation remains unpaid. It is staff’s position that this recommendation is still in line with our neighboring communities who have a similar initial base fee, as well as escalation parameters as follows:

Citations generate minimal revenues for the parking system, as the main objective is for the citation fine, and related escalations, to encourage parking patrons to comply with the City’s parking regulations. Should a patron receive an initial violation, escalations should encourage violators to pay their citation within 14 calendars days of being issued the citation, thereby reducing the period of time that receivables are outstanding. Other changes were recommended by the City Attorney’s Office.
