summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The City of Pompano Beach Historic Preservation Committee proposes to apply for designation as a Preserve America Community. Preserve America is a federal partnership program that recognizes communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic and cultural assets for community revitalization and sustainable development, and encourage people to experience, appreciate, and support local heritage through tourism, education, recreation, and other cultural and social activities. If granted, this designation as a Preserve America Community will provide the City of Pompano Beach with national recognition, eligibility for Preserve America grants, national and regional press releases, enhanced community visibility and marketability as well as potential connections to other federal initiatives.

Accomplishing this item supports achieving Initiative 2.8 "Further develop and promote cultural/heritage tourism opportunities" as identified in the City's 2013 Strategic Plan.
