Summary Explanation/Background:
The Resolution is designating the name of the City’s Beach Lifeguard Headquarters as the Paul J. Hurt Pompano Beach Ocean Rescue Headquarters. As outlined in Resolution 2021-220, Mr. Hurt’s family submitted an application to the City requesting the facility be named after Paul J. Hurt who was hired in 1949 as the City’s first lifeguard.
The Historic Preservation Committee and Historical Society have provided their recommendation to staff regarding their approval to name the facility. In approving this resolution, naming the City’s Beach Lifeguard Headquarters the City Commission will be giving recognition to the contributions and public service made by Paul J. Hurt.
