summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The resolution is to designate the new open-air banquet pavilion in Centennial Park in honor of the contributions made by Margaret White.  The Sample-McDougald House Preservation Society submitted a request to name the new open-air pavilion at Centennial Park after Margaret White, a strong advocate for historic preservation in Pompano Beach.  Ms. White took a passionate interest in the 1916 Sample-McDougald House when it was still at its original location, despite several abortive community efforts to save the house, she persisted and was a founding member of the non-profit Sample-McDougald House Preservation Society.  Ms. White worked closely with the City to secure the land to which the house was relocated in 2001.  She was a major promoter of the restoration, soliciting funds and in-kind contributions for the project.  Ms. White proposed the idea of the open-air pavilion and worked with the City and the Sample-McDougald House Preservation Society to see the vision come to fruition.

In approving the resolution, naming the open-air banquet pavilion in Centennial Park the Margret White Pavilion the City Commission will be giving recognition to the contributions and public service made by Margret White.
