REQUEST
The applicant, the City of Pompano Beach, requests approval of a Comprehensive Plan text amendment adopting the amended policies associated with the Water Supply Facilities Work Plan (WSFWP) update for the planning period 2025-2045. The amended policies are in the:
* Potable Water Sub-Element and the
* Conservation Element
The update ensures compliance with ?163.3177(6)(c), Florida Statutes, which requires local governments to revise their WSFWP and associated Comprehensive Plan policies within 18 months after the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) adopts the update to the Lower East Coast Regional Water Supply Plan which occurred in September, 2024.
BACKGROUND
The SFWMD adopted the most recent Lower East Coast Water Supply Plan Update in September, 2024, triggering required updates to local government potable water planning.
The City of Pompano Beach owns and operates its Water Treatment Plant, providing potable water to approximately 84 percent of its residents as well as to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Broward County Water and Wastewater Services provides potable water services to the remaining Pompano Beach residents. Emergency and supplemental interconnects exist with other surrounding municipalities. The City's last WSFWP update was adopted in 2020, and an update is now required for compliance.
