summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
The enclosed resolution is required to submit for Broward County Transportation System Surtax funding. Staff has identified the East Atlantic Boulevard streetscape from South Cypress Road to NE/SE 18th Avenue as a potential project to submit for Surtax Funding. The funding request to Broward County includes $8,923,526 in eligible construction costs, as well as 15% or $1,338,529 in design costs. If selected to be funded, the project may start design in FY 2026 and construction in 2027 or 2028. All costs are ballpark estimates provided by Kimley Horn. The City has a work order with Kimley Horn to provide a more thorough opinion of probable costs.

Attached is the proposed conceptual cross section and description. The project includes milling and surfacing of the road, reconfiguring lane widths and median, sidewalks, a bike lane, crosswalks, lighting upgrades, landscaping, drainage, on-street parking, and a modifying a lane configuration at one intersection. The project does not propose to eliminate travel lanes. The intent is to enhance multi-modal mobility and accessibility, improve resiliency, reduce overall traffic congestion, while also improving safety by reducing vehicle, pedestrian and bike crashes. The improvements will also maintain the functionality of this important evacuation route.

Broward County requires a resolution of support to be considered an eligible project.
