Summary Explanation/Background:
The proposed Ordinance will amend the current Agreement with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and add an additional Homeless Outreach Deputy. This new deputy position will used to augment the Homeless Outreach Team and will used primarily to assist with liaising services between individuals and providers. The Deputy will also assist the City in establishing and running a Community Court. The total annual cost of the position is approximately $177K; however, since the position is being added during the fiscal year the anticipated cost will be a little over $107K and will be paid with ARPA Funds. The position will be included in the upcoming budget cycle and be funded out of the general fund starting next fiscal year. In order to facilitate the hiring of the additional Deputy, 2nd reading is being held first followed by 1st reading.
