Summary Explanation/Background:
Staff is seeking approval of a Resolution to execute Change Order No. 2 pertaining to an existing Construction Manager-At-Risk Contract with Burkhardt Construction, Inc. As part of the scheduled improvements for SR A1A Streetscape project, the City of Pompano Beach will also be installing new pedestrian crosswalks flashing lights also called in-road pedestrian lighting systems by the industry. These systems consist of lights embedded in the roadway on both sides of the crosswalk. Upon activation by a pedestrian, the lights flash at oncoming motorists, thereby alerting them to pedestrians in the crosswalk. The in-road lights will be installed at strategic locations along A1A which have been discussed with and approved by Florida Department of Transportation. These enhancements are in addition to a number of other traffic calming features already provided by the project such as new pavement markings with stripped crosswalks, bright colored stamped asphalt intersections, new signalization and new signage throughout the corridor to improve safety for the pedestrians and the general public. To date construction work for the project is 95% complete.
