Summary Explanation/Background:
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant (JAG) Program is a formula grant to counties and municipalities based on crime and statistics. Seventeen (17) jurisdictions within Broward County's borders are eligible to apply for $501,886. The U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has identified Broward County as disparate. As a result of the disparity the seventeen (17) jurisdictions must identify a fiscal agent and submit a joint application.
BJA released their FY 2019 Local Solicitaion for the JAG program on July 25, 2019. The application was submitted prior to the deadline of August 23, 2019. This Resolution, ratifies the application made to the granting agency which was submitted prior to the deadline of August 23, 2019.
In general, JAG funds awarded to a unit of local government under this FY 2019 solicitation may be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice, including any one or more of the following:

? Prosecution and court programs
? Prevention and education programs
? Corrections and community corrections programs
? Drug treatment and enforcement programs
? Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs
