summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
The City of Pompano Beach is preparing to complete the Mosaic Team Term 3 project. This mosaic project will be located on the front and back of the overpass columns under Interstate 95 (I-95) over Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd. and on the south and north sidewalks leading towards and away from the overpass. The artwork will consist of 100 mosaic tiles that are one(1) square foot in size and twenty-seven (27) columns painted with murals. These artworks will create a gateway connecting the west and east side of the City.

The Artist Agreement (Ordinance #2023-26) was approved by the City Commission on January 26, 2023. The Agreement states that the artist, Sonata Kazimieraitiene, will produce the design, fabrication, and installation of artwork on twenty-seven (27) columns and must include mosaic artwork. At the May 18, 2023 Public Art Committee (PAC) Meeting, the PAC unanimously recommended approval of the design. The budget for this project is $125,000.00. Out of the total budget, $15,000.00 will be used to pay the apprentices. Per the Agreement, the City shall sign and submit a Community Aesthetic Feature Agreement ("CAFA") to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The CAFA Agreement will go before Commission for approval through an Ordinance. The Ordinance's first reading is at the June 27, 2023 City Commission Meeting.
