Summary Explanation/Background:
This is a request for the approval of a grant agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the proposed Pompano Beach Water Taxi service. This initiative is designed to enhance regional transportation by connecting the City of Pompano Beach with neighboring coastal cities, including Lighthouse Point to the north and Lauderdale by the Sea, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood to the south via the Intracoastal waterway.
The Water Taxi will consist of ten strategic stops throughout Pompano Beach, providing convenient access to popular destinations such as the Fishing Village restaurants, local hotels, the Fisher Family Pier, various shops, and the general beach area. This service aims to improve mobility and tourism while seamlessly integrating with existing micro-mobility routes along Atlantic Blvd and throughout the beach area, which have previously received funding from FDOT.

The vessels will be equipped with Tier 3 compliant engines to ensure emissions reduction and low wake, as well as essential amenities including security cameras, a sound system, an accessible deck area, and a unisex bathroom.
