summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
Staff proposes the “Parking Citation Late Fee Amnesty Program” in advance of the introduction and deployment of the Barnacle Immobilization System, which was approved by the City Commission on May 25, 2021.
In light of the financial impact and hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic the City would like to invite all individuals who have any outstanding and aging parking citations with the City of Pompano Beach to pay only the original fine. All associated late fees would be forgiven under the proposed Amnesty Program. Staff intends to promote the Amnesty Program through social media, local newspapers, the City website and mailings.
The Amnesty Program would run from the time period beginning June 10, 2021 through close of business on August 9, 2021, to be in effect for 61 days, if approved by the City Commission.
The City currently has $249,000 in aging unpaid citations.
Origin of request for this action: City Manager’s Office
Fiscal impact and source of funding: $60,000 in late fees forgiven with potential to increase citation collections; Parking Fund
