Summary Explanation/Background:
To obtain approval for the Mayor to execute a letter approving the distribution of the Edward
Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program funds in the amount of $412,043 to provide Employability skills training and related services for youth with behavioral health issues that impact their ability to function socially, academically/vocationally, and/or emotionally, and/or also adjudicated dependent and have current Department of Juvenile Justice involvement., support is
needed by 51 percent of local units of government.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant-Countywide (JAG-C) is a program
administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and in Florida by the
Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Program funds can be used to support a
broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice
system throughout the County, including Pompano Beach.
