Summary Explanation/Background:
The City of Pompano Beach is preparing to go into an Agreement with Velvet Anvil for a period of two (2) years. A Call to Artists was posted November 28, 2023, with a deadline of January 17, 2024. One hundred seven (107) artists submitted applications. At the March 21, 2024 PAC Meeting, the Committee recommended approval of Velvet Anvil (Contractor) and the design entitled Seahorse. The Contractor will have six (6) months to fabricate the sculpture. The sculpture will be located on-land at the beach, exact location to be determined, for a period of one (1) year before it is sunk and attached the Lady Luck in Shipwreck Park.
In accordance with Section § 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location.
