Summary Explanation/Background:
The Pompano Beach Historical Society, Inc. (Historical Society) entered into a lease with the City of Pompano Beach (City) September 1989 to place the Kester Cottages in Founder’s Park and operate a Historical Museum at the original Pompano Beach Fire Station. In 1996 construction was completed on the Dick and Miriam Hood Center (Hood Center) which allowed the Historical Society to move out of the original Fire Station to the Hood Center.
An Operating and Management Agreement with the Historical Society to formalize the operation of the Historical Museum by the Historical Society is being presented as a companion item on this agenda. The Historical Society will convey its ownership of the Kester Cottages to the City via a Deed of Gift. The City will continue to maintain the Kester Cottages and Hood Center.
Staff is requesting City Commission approval to execute a Deed of Gift with the Pompano Beach Historical Society, Inc. to convey the Historical Society’s ownership interest in the Kester Cottages and Hood Center to the City.
