summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

Due to a volumetric rate increase of 14.8% imposed by Broward County, the Utilities Department had to reassess the previously approved rate from November 2023. This increase has led to an overall rise of 8.4% in the City's wastewater treatment costs, amounting to approximately $1 million. Because of these increases, the City’s original proposed increase of 4% will not be sufficient to meet the operating and capital needs of the wastewater utility. As a result, the Utilities Department recommends an increase from 4% to 7.5% for FY 2025 to FY 2029. Please note that this item was previously presented on December 10, 2024. It passed the first reading but failed the second emergency reading, requiring the need to restart the process, requiring readvertisement with mailings to customers and requiring two readings of the ordinance to approve the item.
