Summary Explanation/Background:

In accordance with Section § 160.04  POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee (PAC) has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location. The City of Pompano Beach is preparing to complete a mural on the exterior wall of Kelly’s Chemicals located at 135 NE 1st Ave, Pompano Beach, FL 33060 and owned by T E P M, Inc.

 

A Call to Artists was posted May 10th, 2016 with a deadline of Jun 30th, 2016. Twenty-nine artists submitted applications. On July 21st, 2016, the PAC Subcommittee selected three shortlisted artists; these artists were paid an honorarium of $200 each to create a detailed, to scale design. At the August 30th, 2016 PAC Subcommittee Meeting, Carlos Gonzalez was selected to be presented to the PAC as the final artist. At the September 15th, 2016 PAC Meeting, the Committee recommended approval of the proposed mural design and Carlos Gonzalez as the final artist. Mr. Gonzalez will start the installation of the mural in November and will have thirty days to complete the mural.
