Summary Explanation/Background:
Approval of this Resolution will allow William Savarese, Inc. to complete the Public Art project entitled, "Asphalt Art - Crossroads Connection." This is project is funded in part by a matching grant from the Community Foundation of Broward (CFB): Art of Community grant program. This grant was awarded to the City and approved by the City Commission via Resolution #2020-165.

The "Asphalt Art - Crossroads Connection" project consists of five (5) community engagement activities that will serve as inspiration in designing four (4) asphalt street art murals and eight (8) storm drain murals on NE 1st Street between City Hall and the Pompano Beach Cultural Center/Library campus. A Call to Artists was posted August 6, 2020, with a deadline of September 24, 2020. Fifty-seven (57) applications were submitted. At its October 15, 2020 meeting the Public Art Committee (PAC) selected William Savarese, Inc. as the recommended artist for this project.

This project creates an opportunity to educate, energize, and engage our entire community while celebrating our City's unique characteristics through public art along the City Hall/Cultural Center/Library portion of the Pompano Beach Crossroads Corridor. In addition to expanding community involvement in public art opportunities, the "Asphalt Art - The Crossroads Connection" project also aims to educate our community through public artwork about the importance of protecting the City's potable water supply by not disposing inappropriate and harmful materials down our storm drains...
