Summary Explanation/Background:

The Utilities Department is requesting authorization to purchase pumps, parts and equipment for the rehabilitation of Wastewater Lift Station 61, based on section 32.45 (Standardization) of the City Code of Ordinances. All of the City of Pompano Beach, Florida’s (City) lift stations currently use pumps, parts and equipment manufactured by EBARA Pumps Americas Corporation. To maintain compatibility with existing infrastructure, the Utilities Department will submit requests to issue purchase orders totaling $918,474.00 to Tom Evans Environmental, Inc., the sole certified distributor for EBARA Pumps Americas Corporation.  These pumps, parts and equipment are unique to the City because any other brand or source will put the particular City operation in jeopardy and not allow the proper City service to be completed. 

 

Origin of request for this action: Staff

Fiscal impact and source of funding: Rehabilitation of lift station 61 will be funded from account 420-7345-535.65-12 Capital Projects / Lift Station Rehab Project.
