summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
At the November 17, 2022 Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) meeting, Daniel Yaffe, Chairman, noted Board attendance has been a challenge recently. A discussion ensued, and ultimately the Board voted (unanimously) to recommend to the City Commission to increase the number of ZBA alternate members from three to four.

A text amendment to amend section ?155.2203 (C) to increase the number of ZBA alternate members was presented to City Commission on the January 10, 2023. The Commission meeting concurred that additional alternates were necessary in order for the ZBA to always have a quorum, and directed staff to further revise the code language so that each Commissioner shall nominate an alternate Board member, to be appointed by resolution of the Commission by a majority vote. This will create a pool of six alternate members for the ZBA, rather than three (as is currently permitted) or four (as proposed at first reading). The Ordinance was further revised to specify that an alternate member vacancy shall be filled by the City Commissioner whose district the appointment originated, with approval by resolution of the City Commission.
