summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The following Miscellaneous Appropriations Agreement with the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc. will be in effect during fiscal year 2017 to provide financial and programmatic accountability for expenditure of City funds.  The Agreement is for a period of one (1) year and the funding level of $2,500 was approved on September 19, 2016 with adoption of the FY 2017 budget.

The Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc. was founded in 1997 to prevent the USCG from decommissioning the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse.  The new organization successfully convinced District Seven Leadership to assume responsibility for preserving, repairing and operating the classic lens with its original modified mechanism.  The light will be available for many future generations which aids Maritime Navigation, is a Historical Landmark and is an instrument of education.  Approximately 5,000 Pompano Beach residents will tour this Historic Landmark.
