summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The City was able to secure $50K in funding from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) for the Wahoo Bay Project at the Hillsboro Inlet Park. Unlike most other grants, where the funding is awarded to the City, the FWC will purchase and deliver two (2) novel shoreline stabilization units, referred to as “SEAHIVEs, in support of the Wahoo Bay living shoreline project. The SEAHIVE units, designed by the University of Miami (UM), will act as a mangrove planter, and provide structural complexity for fish and other marine organisms. It is anticipated these units will be delivered to the City prior to or by June 1, 2022. Once delivered, the City will take ownership of the units.
