Summary Explanation/Background:
The Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) Complete Streets and other Localized Initiatives Grant Program (CSLIP) provides long-range funding for small local transportation projects which improve the safety and mobility for all transportation users in Broward. The 2017/2018 CSLIP projects that are selected by the MPO are not eligible for funding until 2024 for design work to be completed by the Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT). FDOT would also do the construction for such projects. There is no local matching requirement necessary for these projects. Staff is preparing a 2017/2018-cycle application for the list of projects included in Exhibit A of the Resolution. The project list was chosen by Staff based on long-term resurfacing needs and that which would otherwise have to be paid for through general maintenance expenditure. None of the proposed projects are included in the Bond Referendum list of improvements. Each proposed project cannot exceed $2 million of cost estimate and must be within existing right-of-way. Given such constraints, the projects involve relatively small segments that can provide the most impact. The NW 16 Avenue Project would improve a local collector segment that intersects the Seaboard Highlands Subdivision. It would greatly improve pedestrian and bicycle safety with traffic calming features that have been requested by the neighborhood.
