summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

During last year’s session of the Florida Legislature, a section within the Florida State Statutes, regulating Local Business Tax Receipts (BTR) was amended.  The City of Pompano Beach Code of Ordinances offers exemptions related to the annual BTR’s.  The new exemptions granted by State Statutes are for business owners that are veterans, spouses of veterans and certain service members, as well as low-income persons.  The proposal amends the BTR Code (Chapter 113) to reference the state statutes for these, and future, exemptions.  Also included in this ordinance is the removal for an applicant to obtain a BTR for Special Events.  The State Statutes authorized local governments to collect BTR’s for permanent businesses within the municipal boundaries. Since Special Events are temporary in nature, the City will no longer be requiring applicants pay a BTR for these events.
