Summary Explanation/Background:
The ordinance proposes to amend: Section 34.058), “Preretirement Death”. This section is amended to include a recent legislative update to Chapter 2026-99, the Firefighters’ Cancer Bill, regarding post-employment benefits. This amendment makes cancer-related line-of-duty death benefits available for up to one year following a firefighters’ termination of employment, provided he or she meets the statutory requirements. Section 34.0603 “Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP)”. This section is amended to increase the administrative fee applied to Fund Rate DROP accounts effective October 1, 2026.
