summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
The City of Pompano Beach Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has an aged distribution system. As the City's primary source of drinking water, the need to maintain production under extreme conditions such as power outages and tropical storms is paramount. In 2012, Carollo and Gamboa Engineers assessed the electrical system and found that the majority of the power distribution system was near the end of its useful life and needed a significant upgrade to maintain reliability and safety.

The Phase I and II improvements were successfully completed in 2014 and 2016, which improved the electrical systems greatly for the High Service Pumps (HSP) 1 through 4. The Phase III improvements upgraded the electrical switchgear at the Transfer Station completed in 2021. The remainder of the identified electrical improvements will be conducted under this project as Phase IV and will include Carollo's design to incorporate new switchgear in HSP 5 & 6, convert the existing Sludge Dewatering Building into an electrical building to house new main power distribution, upgrade electrical equipment in the Lime Softening Building and replace the generator at the Membrane Building.
