Summary Explanation/Background:
In accordance with Section ? 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location. The City of Pompano Beach is preparing to install the mosaics that are a part of the Mosaic Team "Trail of the Honey Bees" project.
This program was originally approved under the Public Art Master Plan and Guidelines Resolution # 2016-78. The program has also been approved through the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Public Art Annual Plans Resolution # 2015-440, # 2017-36 and # 2018-52.
The Artist Agreement and Ordinance # 2017-40 was signed and approved by the City Commission on April 25, 2017. The Agreement states that the lead artist, Sonata Kazimieraitiene, will install a trail of mosaic artworks connecting both sides of Dixie Highway in the Innovation District. Exact locations were not selected at that time. The Public Art Committee spent much time, dedication and many meetings in selecting the exact locations for the trail. At the August 16, 2018 PAC Meeting, the Public Art Committee recommended approval of the thirty-five (35) mosaic artworks to be placed on twenty (20) exact locations to the City Commission.
