summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

Staff is seeking City Commission approval of a Resolution to execute a contract with West Construction, Inc. (“West”) to design and build Fire Station No. 24 located at 2001 NE 10th Street Pompano Beach, FL 33060 in the sum of $5,191,010.03 including $195,000.00 in owner controlled contigency funds. The project entails the design and reconstruction of an existing fire station supporting rescue services in and around Pompano Beach Municipal Airpark, the Highlands, east to the Intracoastal and south to McNab Road. The design will include provisions for a +/-13,000 square feet facility. This facility is outdated and in need of replacement. Some of the most glaring problems affecting the existing building include age (building was constructed in 1969 with a 50-year cycle). In addition, the building has been experiencing plumbing and ventilation problems; bathrooms are inadequate; the facility isn't ADA compliant; space is limited, to name a few. Staff recommends approval.
