summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

This zoning code amendment aims to establish a new Section within our Code of Ordinances on beach dune management, restoration, and enhancement. Previously, any dune enhancements on private property were the result of negotiations during the Site Planning phase and/or as a result of requirements by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. With this Ordinance, the City will have additional authority to require dune and dune vegetation protection and mitigation.

The amendment has been advised by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, presented to the Economic Development Council, and received a recommendation of approval by the Planning and Zoning Board. The proposed amendment is supported by our Comprehensive Plan, does not create conflict with our Code of Ordinances, and is consistent with the intents and purposes of the Zoning Code.
