Summary Explanation/Background:
In accordance with Section ? 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location. The City of Pompano Beach is preparing to begin a Mosaic Program that will take place for two (2) years, with the possibility of extending to a total of four (4) years. The first two (2) years of the Mosaic Program consist of four (4) mural Projects that will be placed throughout the City. The Lead Artist will select five (5) apprentices that will work under the Lead Artist. The Lead Artist will be paid a total of $100,000.00 and must pay the apprentices a total of $30,000.00 in the span of two (2) years.

A Call to Artists was posted on April 26, 2016 with a deadline of June 30, 2016. Six (6) artists submitted applications. On July 12th, 2016, the subcommittee selected three (3) shortlisted artists.
On August 2nd, 2016, the three (3) shortlisted artists were interviewed and the subcommittee voted to bring Sonata Kazimieraitiene to the Committee for their final approval. At the August 18th, 2016 Public Art Committee meeting, the Committee voted to approve Sonata Kazimieraitiene as the selected artist for the Mosaic Team program.
