Summary Explanation/Background:
Staff is seeking City Commission approval to modify an existing Ordinance governing operation of Water Taxis in the City. The current Ordinance as structured permits Water Taxi operators to run a system by simply obtaining a Business Tax Receipt. The proposed modifications will require would-be operators to enter into a licensing agreement. The agreement will allow the City to evaluate whether a provider has the proper credentials, adequate equipment, staffing, and verify whether pricing structure is consistent with similar operations in the City and other neighboring municipalities. Staff recommends approval of proposed modifications.
