summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
On July 11, 2017, the City Commission considered an Ordinance to ban medical marijuana uses to comply with the new State legislation offering options to regulate such uses. The City Commission determined that it was in the best interest of the citizenry and general public to allow the city’s Development Services staff and City Attorney’s Office time to review the recently approved legislation and research legal and zoning issues related to the processing, dispensing, and testing of medical cannabis as well as issues related to the possible conflicts in the new State legislation, the current Federal laws establishing marijuana as a controlled substance, and the City’s current Ordinance by adopting a 6-month moratorium on the location of marijuana related establishments in the City.
