summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has entered into an Agreement with Motorola Solutions, Inc., to purchase public safety radios. The agreement is necessary to allow BSO, and agencies or cities that contract with BSO, to utilize the new P25 public safety radio infrastructure being installed by Broward County. The migration to the new radio system began this year and is targeted for completion in June 2019. Part of this process in moving to a new radio system involves the replacement of all subscriber radios across the County, including municipalities that contract with BSO. The attached addendum to the City’s Police Services Agreement will allow the Sheriff’s Office to purchase the radios for the Pompano Beach District. The cost of the purchase is $1.2M, which will be paid back to the Sheriff’s Office over a three year period beginning in fiscal year 2020. If for any reason the City ceases services with BSO, the Sheriff’s Office will transfer ownership of the radios to the City.

Origin of request for this action: Broward Sheriff’s Office

Fiscal impact and source of funding: $1,214,355 appropriated through the adopted budget process for fiscal years 2020-2022.
