summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

This Ordinance seeks to modify the current agreement with the Pompano Beach Water Taxi provider to reallocate $30,000.00 in subsidized funding previously scheduled to be disbursed in year 4 and $33,203.00 in funding earmarked for year 5 to year 2. The result of this reallocation of funds would eliminate any subsidy earmarked for year 5. The provider submitted a request to staff upon review of the balance sheet and doing a 1-year recap. The results of that recap indicated losses beyond the provider’s expectations stemming from a number of issues including, but not limited to, inclement weather that forced service to be off-line for 17 days as well as the provider’s inability to strike a deal with Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Hillsboro Lighthouse as initially planned. Staff evaluated the material submitted by the provider and conducted an analysis of ridership and annual expenses. Staff concluded the provider’s request is justifiable and will keep the water taxi in business.
