summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

At the March 24th Economic Development Council (EDC) Meeting, the Council requested the fishing Pier located at 100 North Pompano Beach Boulevard currently under construction be named “Fisher Pier”. This naming is in honor of the Fisher family who have been leaders in the City of Pompano Beach for over 100 years. In 1908, Clinton Lyons (Inez Fisher’s father) signed the City’s Articles of Incorporation. In 1931, Henry Bud Lyons (Inez Fisher’s uncle) served as a Broward County Commissioner. In 1943, Louis Fisher served as Mayor of Pompano Beach. In 2002, Lamar Fisher served as City Commissioner until subsequently elected to serve as Mayor At Large from 2007 until 2018. Currently, Lamar Fisher is serving as a Broward County Commissioner.

Origin of request for this action: A motion was made and unanimously passed by Economic Development Council.
